In 2011, the De Baak/Papageno Summer Week was organised for the fifth time. For this Summer Feast, De Baak, (Training Institute of Leadership and Entrepreneurship and Personal Development), gives the Papageno Foundation the opportunity to invite families with an autistic child for a fantastic week at the seaside full of Papageno Music!

The joint efforts by De Baak and the Papageno Foundation to give families with one or more children with autism a great week’s holiday has become a tradition! A tradition that is partly made possible by the efforts of many volunteers and enthusiastic sponsors.

Papageno’s contribution to the programme has a lot to do with music. That is why the programme includes the percussion party, the Papageno Music Therapists’ workshops and singing together at the table! Music challenges communication, movement, expressing feelings, showing emotions, experiencing pleasure and that does not only apply to autistic children.

A few reactions to De Baak / Papageno Summer Week 2011:
"A week later and it still hasn’t sunk in. What tremendously fantastic days!! For us this was our first activity as "a family with an autistic child"... We were nervous, but you made it so easy for us! We all enjoyed it. Thirza keeps asking whether we will be going on the same holiday again... She loved the music and plays the guitar and music to dance to every day!

Joaz is a total fan of "oetballuh" (football). It makes Gerco and I smile when we look at the photos. I don’t believe you could ever imagine how much those 5 days meant to us and words cannot express that, but once again, very many thanks!!!
Lots of love from the whole family, Lisette."

"By means of this note, we would like to thank you enormously for the fantastic week that we had in Noordwijk. We pushed back so very many frontiers throughout the entire week. Our son was very nervous on the first day and did not want to eat downstairs in the room. That wasn’t a problem and the food was brought upstairs. The next morning, he had become more accustomed and from then onwards he wanted to eat in the room with the others. The first 2 days we had fantastic weather, meaning we could enjoy going to the beach. Unfortunately the weather didn’t want to cooperate on the other days, but thought had also been given to that and there was plenty to do indoors too. The atmosphere was great. You didn’t get bored for one minute. Nothing was compulsory, which we thought was really nice. Once again, thank you very much! We are all able to look back on a lovely week.
Best wishes, the Speck Family."

Apart from the Summer Week, from time to time Papageno organises Winter Days for families with one or more children with autism, at an appealing location in the country with a programme full of music. There are currently no specific plans, but we anticipate that plans will be in place in early 2012.
