What is offered by The Music Makers

The series of ‘Music Makers’ workshops for children in the final two or three years of cluster 3 and cluster 4 secondary schools comprises the following parts:

I - Music Makers Introduction Workshop for teachers

Duration: 60 to 90 minutes (in consultation with the school)
Participants: maximum 15 students

Each series start with a Music Makers introduction workshop for the team of teachers from the school. During this introduction workshop, they learn a simple method for performing short musical exercises with their students which is based on the Music Makers methodology. The teachers of the groups that participate in Music Makers are able to use these musical exercises to prepare the children, in a fun way, for the workshop series.

II - Six workshops for the students

Duration: 45 to 60 minutes (in consultation with the school)
Participants: maximum 12 students

A Papageno workshop leader works with the students for six workshops. The workshop leader provides the workshop material that is required and the musical instruments that will be used. All workshop leaders are professional musicians who are trained by Papageno for Collaborative Creative Practice and working with children in special education.

The sixth and final workshop ends with a performance of the students’ own composition. Along with the class teacher, the workshop leader determines how this performance with be presented: within the class or in front of an audience of fellow students.

Workshop leaders

The Music Makers workshop leaders are professional musicians who have followed an intensive training course lasting for several days; in addition to the musical points of departure of Music Makers, considerable attention is paid to handling special target groups. During the execution of Music Makers, the workshop leaders are assisted by a coach. They are obliged to participate in intervision meetings and follow refresher courses each year.

Costs

The cost for one workshop series (1 introduction workshop and 6 workshops) is € 550,-.
The cost for two workshop series (1 introduction workshop and 2 x 6 workshops) planned consecutively is € 750,-.

Different price agreements can be reached with schools that would like two groups to participate in Music Makers and/or wish to attend Music Makers on several consecutive years.

Scheduling

The workshops are scheduled in consultation with Papageno and the school. There has to be at least one week and a maximum of two weeks between the introduction workshop for teachers and the workshops for students. The workshops can, in principle, start at any time.
