On Thursday the 17th of March 2011, in cooperation with the Residentie Orkest (the Hague Philharmonic) and the Leo Kanner College from Leiden, Papageno presented the musical theatre show RA-PAPAPAPA! in the Dr. Anton Phillips hall in The Hague. RA-PAPAPAPA! was the second show in the Meet series.
For the first time in this series of Meet projects, a full orchestra was involved in the performance of the show. An unusual collaboration. The musical theatre show forms part of the regular programme of the Residentie Orkest (the Hague Philharmonic). In addition to RA-PAPAPAPA!, Ravel's Rapsodie espagnole and the Boléro will be performed.
Dance, music, theatre and design at school Art is a fantastic resource for young people with autism to allow us to experience their world...and to allow them to react to our world. Papageno develops multidisciplinary art education projects for secondary special education, under the name Meet. The Leo Kanner College is a school for students with autism spectrum disorder. Fifty-seven students from the second and third school years work for a period of six days under the direction of professional artists and musicians from the Residentie Orkest (the Hague Philharmonic) on their role as singer, dancer, musician, narrator/actor and scenery/costume designer. The students as the producers and performers of their own musical theatre show.
A reaction from one of the teachers: Through the Papageno projects, our ASS students cross social and emotional borders they didn’t even know existed....weeks after attending the project, we see students communicate in a way they didn't before...it is enriching their lives...thank you... Herbert van Elteren, teacher at Leo Kanner College and coach @ BCTransparant"
